DigiPak/Ancillary Drafts

Draft 1

Why Didn't We use this Piece?

My reasoning for not using this album art is that we decided to change our song and our music video. This placed our album art redundant due to it having no relevance to our work. First off, This actors we have used to represent the artist was the main character in our previous video. But when we changed our song we changed the main character thus making this inaccurate and not worthy of a place in our final work. Another aspect which we didn't feel fit our work was the font used.We have consistently used the font Friday 13th throughout all aspects of our work, therefore we wanted to keep the continuity aspect of our working due to the fact that we felt that it would bring a more professional finish to our work.

Draft 2

Why Didn't we use this piece ?

With this example does adhere to the camouflage. But the colour scheme is black and white which I felt takes away from the effectiveness of the camouflage and doesn't suit our genre of music. The next convention we felt that we didn't think was suitable for our work is the position of the actor. We found through our secondary research that it is a common convention for the artist to be the main focus point for the album art. For this reason I feel that I needed to keep the album art much more simple due to the fact that I feel it conforms stronger to the hip hop genre, as well as being more ascetically pleasing to look at. We also potentially wanted to use this a magazine advertisement page, but we were put off by poor choice of colour combination which wasn't very attractive. Also we found make silly mistakes that would not be acceptable in a final piece of work e.g only implementing one speech.

Draft 3

Why didn't we use this piece ?

This was another contender for our album front cover. The conventions that we liked was that it adheres to the continuity aspect of our work by implementing the Friday the 13th font. This font has been used throughout all aspects of our production process and we felt featuring this would give our work a more professional finish. However we took inspiration from a pre existing album called 'The Life Of Pablo' by Kanye West. We liked the originality of Kanye's album and matches the creative roots. But we felt that we would have stunted our creative capabilities by making something that very closely resembles someone else's work. For these reasons we felt we should being more creative and make another front cover.

Draft 4

Why Didn't we use This Piece ?

For the same reasons as the example above this is another example where we have decided against using a specific piece of work due to its unoriginality. At this point in the project my group were heavily influenced by the Album 'The Life of Pablo. 'therefore we can clearly see this example is way to similar to the album art of Kanye's album for us to use. The last thing that we wanted to be accused of was ripping off another artists work, and with this example we feared that this would happen. Th conventions which were similar is the colour scheme of black and orange, also the two examples have very similar layout of the text. The final convention which stopped us using this draft is the changing of the song which we are going to use. This meant that the word 'Chum' was completely irrelevant, also the model in this cover is the previous main character. now that this has changed we cannot mislead out audience by showing two different actors.

Draft 5

Why Didn't We Use This Piece ?

This Draft was intended to be a back of the album cover. This example yet again conforms to the camouflage ascetic we were trying to achieve in our work. This also features all of the conventions that we needed to include into our work eg social media contacts and the barcode. But what let this example down is the sloppy use of colour schemes. We chose to use red text on a green background, this made the text extremely had to read which is a fundamental feature of any piece of work. For this reason we needed to go back to the drawing board to make a back cover that was of a higher quality.

Why Didn't we use these pieces ?

We did decide to use this background in our final advertisement page. But the version on the bottom does not conform to the continuity in the form of the same font being used. In the top let hand corner we have featured a date in a different font to the title. As specified in pervious drafts we found it very important that we keep fonts the same throughout our project. For this reason we didn't go with this example. The top advertisement page features Earl Sweatshirt's logo over the actors face. we felt that this took the attention away for the actor which we wanted to play a bigger role in the advertisement. Therefor both of these example remained drafts.

Why Didn't we use this piece ?

This example features a hand drawn text which we thought could have been an innovative feature to our work. but looking back on it i felt that this makes the work look sketch and rushed. on the other hand this magazine advertisement did conform to the camouflage theme we were trying to achieve in our work. But much like the previous examples this advertisement doesn't pay enough attention to the model in this shot. This is due to their being too much woodland surrounding the artist , which resulted in me think that the page is crammed with convention. For this reason we opted to not go with example.
